SUMMARY:Self-assembly, interfaces and membranes
DESCRIPTION:Palestrante: Profa. Dra. Suzana Pereira Nunes – King Abdullah University of Science and Technology – Arábia Saudita\n \n \nAbstract: Molecular and supramolecular assembly, phase separation, and interfacial polymerization are essential strategies for the development of membranes for desalination and growing applications in the chemical industry as challenging as precise separation of pharmaceutical products and crude oil fractionation. The talk will discuss how pore design from sub-nano to mesoscale can be controlled, how large-scale fabrication is done and how chemical stability and sustainability are driving the advance of membrane technology.\n \n \nSuzana Nunes is Professor of Chemical and Environmental Science and Engineering at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. Her research focuses on polymer materials and membranes for sustainable separations. She holds a Doctor of Science in Chemistry from UNICAMP, where she was also Assistant and “Livre Docente” Professor, after postdoctoral research as Humboldt fellow in polymer science at the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany. In Germany, she led for several years research in membranes for renewable energy at the Helmholtz Research Center. She is a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences, São Paulo Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the North American Membrane Society, an Honorary Member of the European Membrane Society, and international L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science laureate.\n \n \nProf. Responsável: Caio Gomide Otoni\n \n
