Construction of Fluorine-Containing Cyclic Systems Using the Properties of Fluorine Substituents

Abstract: Pinpoint-fluorinated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (F-PAHs) and ring-fluorinated heterocycles, regioselectively substituted with one or two fluorine atoms, were systematically synthesized via In(III)- and Au(I)-catalyzed Friedel–Crafts cyclization and cycloadditions of fluoroalkenes (especially 1,1-difluoroallenes). A key feature of these reactions is the ring-closure step, which proceeds through α-fluorine-stabilized CF2 carbocations.

Awards: Progress Award in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan (1994, the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan).The Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work (2015, Chemical Society of Japan).Synthetic Organic Chemistry Award, Japan (2018, the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan).The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award (Science and Technology Award – Research Category) (2023, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). Education: 1977-1981-Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, The University of Tokyo Awarded the degree of B.S. in chemistry under the guidance of Professor Teruaki Mukaiyama; 1981-1985-Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo;1986-Awarded the degree of Ph.D. in chemistry under the guidance of Professor Teruaki Mukaiyama.
